Dungeons: Bulldozer’s kit is pretty much all-around poor for dungeons. Defense-scaling monsters generally do not pair well in most dungeon teams, who specializes in attack. Furthermore, the self-stun on his 3rd skill can leave him vulnerable to other attacks and slow down your runs. The only dungeon where Bulldozer can excel in is in the Hall of Lights, where his ignore defense does a huge amount of damage against the boss, something other monsters like Copper can’t compete with.
Raids: While Bulldozer may be able to deal a decent amount of damage in raids, he is outshined by Copper, who offers much more debuffs and a much more powerful nuke. While Copper is able to provide slow and defense break, Bulldozer pretty much only has a 30% attack bar reduction on a 3-turn cooldown. There is little reason to use Bulldozer over other ignore defense monsters like Copper and Katarina for raids.
ToA: Likewise, Bulldozer’s kit isn’t exactly the best for this area of the game. His single-target stuns, while reliable, can easily be found in other monsters like the Taoist family. In ToAH, the high base HP of the enemies makes Bulldozer’s damage output to be pretty negligible too. There is pretty much no reason for Bulldozer to take the place of a monster that can likely contribute more.
PvP: For most players, this is pretty much the only place Bulldozer will be used. His 3rd Skill does a very respectable amount of damage that is on pair with a similarly-quality Kahli, while being much tankier to boot. While he may not hit as hard as Copper, the different element and lack of any specific conditions allows him to easily kill defense-scaling monsters like Feng Yan, Velajuel and even some Rakans. However, his single-target attacks also allows him to perform much better in guild wars over arena, where time is of the essence. Once your 3rd Skill is used, his 1st Skill still hits a good amount of damage, especially if you have an active defense buff. In some cases, a single Bulldozer as your primary attacker is more than enough to win the game.
However, Bulldozer is an extremely poor choice for defense. Like practically all other defense-heavy monsters, ignore-defense monsters pretty much makes all their bulk obsolete. Even a non-crit from a Lushen or Katarina can easily wipe out a defense-scaling team like a hot knife through butter. As such, you should absolutely not use a monster like Bulldozer in your defense past early-game arena.
How to Counter
As mentioned, ignore-defense monsters are pretty much Bulldozer’s kryptonite. If you do not have of such monsters, however, things can get a little trickier. You have to be wary of Bulldozer’s powerful attacks, even without defense break or buffs. Fortunately, his AI is as dumb as his appearance, where he’ll often use his 1st Skill more than his 3rd. The best way to neutralize him is to either target out the enemy’s defense buffer, if any, or bring a defense breaker like Belladeon.
- Due to his crit rate upon awakening, Bulldozer is a very noob-friendly monster to build. Once you get to around 70% crit rate, you can stack the rest into crit damage and defense. If you have the runes to do so, a good amount of HP, speed and accuracy won’t hurt either.
- Bulldozer’s best friends are defense buffers like Imesety, Megan, Emma and Olivia. You should definitely pair him with monsters like those if you want to use him effectively.
- Will-runes is a near must for Bulldozer due to his 3rd Skill’s self-stun. If you do not have the necessary runes to do so, you can pair him up with a cleanser like Velajuel or Delphoi instead.
When Bulldozer was first released, many players dismissed him as a weaker Copper and as such, chose not to build him. However, it took some time before people began to realize his better consistency and element advantage over Coppers. One of the strongest benefits about Bulldozer over Copper is the lack of a necessary condition, allowing you to bring a Bulldozer while fully knowing the precise amount of damage he’ll deal. If you have him, I highly recommend building one for your guild wars offense team, he really is a monster there.
- Strong multipliers and high chance to stun on 1st Skill
- Reliable and consistent damage on 3rd Skill
- Crit rate on awakening makes him very easy to rune
- Decent all around bulk, with good base HP for a Nat 3*
- Base defense leaves a lot to be desired
- 3rd Skill’s nuke hits no where close to other monsters like Copper
- Self-stun on 3rd Skill leaves him vulnerable
