Summonerswar.co Thoughts:
I can’t blame anyone for being disappointed with this Secret Dungeon. Really? A “Exclusive” Secret Dungeon for a monster that already has it’s own Secret Dungeon on the Hall of Fire days? Well, let’s just look on the bright side and see whether this is worth your time hunting for it.
Fao, the Fire Serpent
The one and only Fao. His mediocre damage, impractical 3rd Skill and inability to fulfill any useful niche makes him a very good monster. I mean, well, for food. He’s also amazing as a fusion requirement for Baretta, the Fire Sylph though, so I can see some devilmon cheapskates out there to get a couple of the Fire Serpents as fusion fodder. Frankly, that’s about it. His Revenge skill is only really practical when he has a ridiculously high HP a la ToAH, and is weak in the hands of the player. Just don’t bother building him, please.
Shailoq, the Water Serpent
Some players have used Shailoq to relative success in DB10 & ToA. His 2nd Skill, Ice Blast, hits hard while reducing a notable chunk of the enemy’s attack bar, while his AoE HP-scaling 3rd Skill lets him pretend to be a Beast Monk just for a bit (albeit with <10,000 base health). Consider using him if you're desperate for an attack bar / crowd controller in ToA, but I can imagine many players would just rather go for Spectra, the Fire Griffon instead.
Ermeda, the Wind Serpent
Everybody knows who’s the best Serpent in the family, and it’s definitely not Ermeda. But hey, first runner up ain’t so bad right? Ermeda fulfills a niche as a super tanky wind bruiser, with a great tank passive and strong HP-scaling damage. His 1st Skill is actually really fun to utilize, with similar game mechanics to Tyron, the Water Sylph and Raoq, the Fire John Cena Inugami. His best use is in Guild Wars, where he can tank fire nukers long enough for you to take them out, as long as there isn’t an armor break in play. Even then though, the 50% damage reduction is huge, and unless you’re very unlucky, he should still be able to survive for a good while. Also, he’s a pretty nice monster against Theomars, since he can potentially strip and kill Theomars in 1-turn with his 1st Skill.
Elpuria, the Light Serpent
Next up, we have Mei Hou W Elpuria, the Light Serpent! His passive makes him stronger the longer the fight goes, with a good increase to his damage and bulk on each stack. Do note that the 20% bonus is factored into his BASE stats, not total. He’ll hit harder when he gets all 10 stacks up, but really, by that point the fight will either end, or he’ll be dead anyway. There’s really no actual practical use for Elpuria despite his pretty unique 3rd Skill. He doesn’t offer any good debuffs for Raids, and the weird mix of attack and HP-scaling on his two skills makes it hard to rune him properly. Just give him a pass.
Mantura, the Dark Serpent
Mantura’s the only Serpent that’s still viable past mid-game, and it’s really easy to see why. AoE defense breakers are always good to have, and Mantura’s HP-scaling attacks allows him to dish out a good amount of damage while still fulfilling his role. While he ain’t no Galleon, he’ll still shine in non-attack scaling cleave teams. The added bonus of DoTs and a slow on his 2nd Skill is nothing short of great, and the very low cooldowns on both of his AoE skills means he’s a strong candidate for a Despair user. Use him in ToA or PvP, and the great combination of stuns (Despair), DoTs and crowd control makes him an all-round useful monster to have.
Conclusion & Summary
This Secret Dungeon is a great opportunity for players looking to skill-up Mantura or his Wind and Water compatriots. While by no means end-game worthy, the Serpent family as a whole can offer some specific niches that other 3* monsters can’t offer, making them still viable for specific portions of the game. If you’re not interested in building any of them though, the only real reason why you’d bother farming this dungeon is to get fusion food for Baretta.
