Dungeons: Lucas’ unique selling point is his consistent shields. A well-timed attack can give him a shield well over 20,000 hp strong. This can come in handy in certain stages of GB10 or DB10 since it effectively gives him more HP to tank out certain hits. He works as a decent meatshield, despite his squishiness, against the GB10’s counterattacks or to survive a hit or two more than other non-water nukers in DB10. His passive gives him a lot more sustain over other nukers, but his damage isn’t anything to write home about. He’s a good defense-breaking nuker up to mid-game dungeon teams, but you’ll want to replace him with something better after that.
Raids: As with the other Neostone Fighters, Lucas doesn’t offer that much in terms of debuffs for raids. Most of the time, you want your damage dealers to be tanky enough to survive the run, while still dishing out good damage. Lucas generally poor multipliers, heavy reliance on his passive and completely average stats makes him a poor choice here.
ToA: While his 2nd Skill does offer a DoT, it’s only a single-target attack, making him unnecessary compared to behemoths like Baretta or Thrain. You can use him here as a standard nuker, especially if you’re low on options, but there’s hardly a reason to use him once you get another nuker that offers armor break (aka Theomars).
PvP: Lucas’ main advantage over other monsters is his self-reliance. His 1st Skill gives him an attack buff while his 2nd Skill deals a strong defense break on a single-target. That being said, the fact that it requires you to go multiple turns for it to be effective makes that advantage negligible too. If you choose to use his 2nd Skill first, you’re likely won’t have an attack buff and vice versa.
Overall, he is generally a decent choice for PvP. He isn’t bad monster per se, but he doesn’t have anything unique enough to stand out either. His shields, unfortunately, only lasts a single-turn, making the shields difficult to manage against nukers you find in defense. His shield does gives him much more survivability and sustain compared to other nukers, but a single Violent proc from the enemy will still be enough to kill him. As with other shield-heavy monsters, Lucas works FAR better for early-game players, where the shield is a much bigger hindrance due to the lower rune quality for everybody in those ranks.
How to Counter
Despite it taking from 50% of his damage, Lucas’ shield isn’t really that outstanding. Unless he manages to get a turn-off while having BOTH attack buff and defense break (which normally shouldn’t happen), most of your damage dealers should be able to easily destroy his shield and cause significant damage to him. Veromos also works as a great counter, since he’ll often be able to cleanse the defense break on your team before Lucas gets another turn off.
- 70% crit rate is enough for Lucas. While he doesn’t have a self crit-rate buff, his passive makes up for that
- Since the shield is HP-based, you can stack some defense substats on Lucas to make the shield even tankier
Lucas’ constant shields are very useful for early-game players, since it can be difficult to break-through it. However, as mentioned earlier, Lucas’ overall average base stats and multipliers makes him, at best, only decent for your general usage. If you don’t have better options, Lucas is definitely a monster worth building. Go for Vampire to give him a bit more sustain, or Violent so that he can better chain off his two skills.
- Born to Fight (Passive): Added Effect: Inflicts additional damage that’s proportionate to the shield amount granted on yourself with every attack.
- Self-attack buff and defense break
- 3rd Skill has a passive 30 crit-rate buff
- Shield can make him really tanky
- Very squishy
- Average base attack
- Lack of any powerful nukes
