Site Review

Dungeons: Most of the monsters found in dungeons have AoE attacks, which greatly nullifies Khmun’s shielding ability. He doesn’t do well in any of the Cairos Dungeons since the shield only protects a single ally, and his damage doesn’t warrant a use over practically any other bruiser. You should give him a pass here, he won’t be that useful unless you’re a very early-game player.

Raids: While Khmun does offer a good health block, it isn’t near 100% reliable. His shield also comes from his passive, which can often be oblivioned. While some monsters like Dias and Darion will still be practical during oblivion states, Khmun becomes a useless tank during that state. There shouldn’t be a circumstance where you want to use Khmun here over ANY fire tank. Colleen will do his job and more.

ToA: Like dungeons, Khmun won’t be that useful here. His shield is essentially a party version of Rina, which while is able to protect an ally, is impractical at best over the long drawn out fights most ToA waves are. You’ll be going circles around the enemy, making the shield pretty useless. Crowd Control or pure damage will be better suited than Khmun here.

PvP: Finally, the good part! Khmun’s one of the best and most annoying monsters you can use and fight against in PvP. His shield can be extremely annoying, especially when paired with monsters like Chasun in defense. While he does a good job in Arena, his capabilities are hugely expanded on in Guild Wars, where his speed leader makes him a perfect monster when paired with a speed demon like Orion. His speed leader and preference for being built fast makes his shield extremely annoying to destroy. Most of the time, if your defense breaker or Tesarion dies before you can take out the enemy’s threat, Khmun can tank his way to victory (or a draw).

How to Counter

Beneficial blocks, strips and oblivion are all good ways to counter a Khmun. As mentioned earlier, you can consider him similar to a party-buff Rina, so you’ll need to take the same precautions against him as you do against the Water Epikion Priest. You can also try to take advantage of his shield only given to the lowest HP ally and focus down the right target. Khmun’s a pretty stat hungry monster, relying on a good amount of speed and crit rate, so he often won’t be a full-on tank, so bear that in mind when you’re fighting one.

Other advice:

  • Crit rate is pretty crucial on Khmun if you want his 2nd Skill to hit hard. While crit damage works, you should prioritize your stats on HP, speed and crit rate first
  • Swift isn’t the be-all end-all rune set for him. If you’re lacking in it, a good broken set will work just as fine on him too

Editor’s Note

Even before the buff to his leader skill (it wasn’t always a speed leader), Khmun was a pretty decent tank. However, the buff solidified his position as one of the best PvP defense monsters out there, especially in Guild Wars. You’ll almost always come across a Khmun-Theomars-Chasun / Orion team somewhere, and it’s really difficult to counter it if you don’t have the right monsters.

One of the best partners I’ve found for him so far in offense is with Groggo, where his HUGE damage reduction synergizes extremely well with Khmun’s shield. He’s a great monster to have, but make sure you have a good enough rune set for him, he’s definitely deserving of it.

Additional Notes

The skillups for the shield granted on Skill 3: Savior (Passive) is multiplicative. The final shield when maxed is 26%.
