Site Review

Dungeons: Shihwa’s a great monster for a NB10 team if you’re in need of a strong and reliable multi-hitter. With her basic attack hitting 3 times while her 3rd Skill has a 5-hit nuke on a short cooldown, Shihwa’s one of the best shield breakers out there. Shihwa also doesn’t need a lot of skill ups to shine, with the only critical one being her 1st Skill, which boosts her DoTs to a 35% chance, and even then it isn’t a big priority. If you choose to run Shihwa in your NB10 team, you should ideally make her the 2nd or 3rd fastest monster in your team.

Raids: While her branding effect certainly is useful, Shihwa’s other skills are pretty lackluster against the raid boss. The DoTs and sleep has no effect on the dragon, making most of her kit ineffective. If you’re looking for a branding monster, the Wind Homunculus and Stella are much more effective here.

ToA: Most teams for ToA doesn’t really need branding effects to shine. While Shihwa can be used here, it’s pretty difficult to fit her into your team without taking up the spot of a more useful monster.

PvP: For newer players, Shihwa can be an excellent fire nuker with a strong sleep utility. However, she quickly gets outclassed as you progressed in the game. While her 3rd Skill has a strong multiplier, her all-around average base stats makes her difficult to shine past early game arena teams.

How to Counter

If you do chance upon a Shihwa in defense, Water nukers such as Theomars can easily kill her off. If you do not have him yet, easily obtainable 3* monsters such as Tractor and Vigor can get the job done too. Fortunately, Shihwa poses little threat in a PvP setting, especially since you’ll unlikely find one runed on Violent at this point in the game.

Other advice:

  • Aim for 45% accuracy if you’re using her for NB10, you need her sleep and branding effects to land to help speed up your runs.
  • If your Violent rune quality is not at the stage where you’re willing to give her your best crit damage rune builds, you can opt to run her with a slot 4 crit rate rune. Shihwa doesn’t need very high quality runes to shine.

Editor’s Note

If you’re looking to break into a successful NB10 team, Shihwa truly is an amazing monster here. However, you shouldn’t prioritize building her until you have good teams in other aspects of the game, as you’re very unlikely to use her in anything besides NB10 and potentially the Dark Beast in the future. I highly recommend getting a violent set on her though, as her 2nd Skill acts as a reset for violent procs akin to Seara. I’ve seen instances where she can get as many as 6 or 7 turns off, wiping off the mini-boss and the trash waves extremely quickly.
