Dungeons: Like Sige, Tosi has the same function as any other AoE nuker for dungeon clears. His AoE nuke can easily kill off most of the trash waves, while his self attack speed buff can help him to get a turn or two more than the rest of your team. You’re very unlikely to use him for his defense break though, and his overall squishiness makes it difficult to survive unless you’re running Tosi in either a speed team or a team with a reviver or defense buffer. Due to his lack of utility beyond his damage, you’ll probably have a monster that can contribute more.

Raids: While he definitely has a better awakening bonus and 2nd Skill than Sige for raids, Tosi still isn’t a good choice for most teams here. The only debuff he can apply is an armor break, which isn’t even reliable, and his increased damage on the 3rd Skill doesn’t stack. Pretty much any easily obtainable nukers like Theomars will deal more damage , so leave Tosi out of your team.

ToA: Tosi is another option for any rush teams for ToAN. His 3rd Skill, paired with his neutral element, can easily wipe off an entire trash wave if you have an attack buff / defense breaker like Galleon. If you’re in need of such a monster either when ToA resets or during the free entrance periods, Tosi’s definitely a good choice.

PvP: While his base attack is not as high as Sige (he has 22 base attack more), Tosi still does about the same damage, with both of their 3rd skills being virtually the same in their multipliers and uniqueness. In PvP, you’re mostly building Tosi to one-shot the entire enemy team, so it’s definitely important to get a good amount of attack stats on him. Once your nuke is used, there is a 50% chance to activate Sword of the Supreme Sky Wolf, which on top of giving him a 4,800 shield, allows him to clean up any surviving monsters with ease, even monsters like Rina. Beyond his AoE nukes, while his 2nd Skill offers an attack speed buff, Tosi isn’t able to survive any drawn-out fights, so it isn’t that much of a use as you think.

Of course, Tosi does have some perks over his dark counterpart. Unlike Sige, Tosi won’t get targetted as much, since Light monsters like Belladeon, Molly, Iona and Hwadam are much more prevalent in defense teams than dark ones. His resistance on awakening can also help him survive better in shield-will comps, and his better defenses makes shield runes ever so slightly more effective.

    How to Counter

Most players won’t be placing Samurais in their defenses, so you don’t have to worry to much. However, if you do, Will runes or Chloe can easily stop Tosi in his tracks. Tosi doesn’t have any speed-scaling attacks too, so for early to mid-game players, you’re likely to either come across a slow hard-hitting or a fast but weak one. Frankly you shouldn’t be having any difficulties against him though, so don’t worry too much about it.

    Other advice:

    • Prioritize getting a good amount of crit rate before anything else. Once you hit at least 85%, stack speed, attack and crit damage as much as possible. Since you’re likely to use Tosi only for your offense teams, supportive stats aren’t as important. You want to make sure Tosi can get his turn and kill off the enemy.

    Editor’s Note

Interestingly, both the L&D Samurais also has slightly higher base speed than the elemental ones, so they have that going for them too. For the March 2017 HoH, Tosi’s arguably the best choice to feed the skillups to unless you just so happen to have Sige as well. I’ve mentioned the pros and cons of each of them in the Sige strategy, so you can look over there for more information. Either way, you should just choose one, depending on the rest of your monster box and store the other.

    Additional Notes
