Dungeons: Verad is a powerful defense-scaling AoE nuker for your DB10 team. Newer player using him will breeze through the trash waves since the enemy monsters will hardly get a turn off. He’ll still work in more advanced teams, but he’ll have to be paired with AoE defense breakers like Galleon and/or defense buffers in order to deal the necessary damage for him to relevant. If you don’t have the team for that, you shouldn’t be using Verad anymore. Attack-based nukers like Poseidon and Theomars would be the better choice then.
Raids: With the boss being immune to inability effects, the only thing Verad has to offer is a complete attack bar reduction on his 3rd. You shouldn’t use him as a nuker or as a frontline tank, even with his great bulk. Unless you’re strapped for options, Verad simply isn’t that great in raids. Monsters like Barque and Hwa will do a far better job as an attack bar manipulator.
ToA: One of the kings in ToA, many say that having Verad is a straight-ticket to clearing everything in ToAN and ToAH. His double AoE crowd-control is disgustingly powerful, giving most trash waves little chance of moving. He also works well in the boss stages, where he works as a back-up attack bar reduction to Baretta’s turbulance against the boss while still putting a stop to the boss’ teammates. Pretty much any rune-set for Verad will work here. However, most will opt for a Violent build since the skill’s freezes are more than enough.
PvP: Verad works well in both PvP Offense and Defense. Ironically, he requires much higher rune requirements to survive in your defense teams. A well-runed Violent Verad hits very hard and works well against any non-Wind heavy team. Other players using him in defense may go for a more HP-oriented, Nemesis build in order to catch cleave teams off-guard, but that requires good team synergy and high rune quality.
For general offensive use, you should pair Verad with AoE defense breakers (Galleon isn’t as necessary here), and defense buffers like Emma, Olivia or Megan. A defense-buff and break combo will easily remove half the health of tanky non-Wind monsters and obliterate squishies like Pernas and Theomars.
How to Counter
As with other crowd control monsters, Verad is hard-countered by Will runes. You should run immunity cleansers to make sure his freezes won’t be of a significant threat to you. Alternatively, you can always bring tanky wind bruisers like Ritesh or Xing Zhe, since his freeze won’t go past glancing. Also, a defense break on Verad will greatly reduce his damage, making him much easier to deal with or ignore. If you’re confident with your ignore-defense monsters, Lushens and Katarinas can one-shot most Verads too.
- Accuracy is vital on Verad, so get at least 60% for PvP use. Fortunately, his accuracy on awakening will make this easy for you
- Regardless of what build you choose, your Verad should be very fast in order to cycle his turns better
- Verad should be the 2nd last monster in your team to move in ToAH, right before Mav (if you’re using him)
Verad is one of the most wanted monsters in the game due to his beastly crowd controls, excellent multipliers and overall amazing bulk. In the past, Verad was the butt of many jokes since his entire kit scaled off attack, but the defense-scaling now makes him one of the best defensive-nukers in the game. Newer players should build him to ease past scenario and Cairos Dungeons, while end-game players will still be able to use him in late game PvP content.
