Site Review

  • GB10 – (Rating: 6.5/10) Psamathe can be used as a standard nuker here. However, you’re unlikely to use him well since his main source of damage comes from dying,
which isn’t something that consistent here.
  • DB10 – (Rating: 8/10) Psamathe works a lot better in DB10 due to his good chance of stripping on his 1st Skill. This allows greater success rates since the immunity tower isn’t as big of an obstacle. He also does a respectable amount of damage and can help crowd control the trash waves a fair bit.
  • NB10 – Not recommended

(Rating 8/10) He’s no Taor or Alicia, but he’ll get the job done. An above-average fodder farmer thanks to his AoE damage, but he’s nowhere close to being an ideal one.

  • R5 – Not recommended. He’s just going to die without contributing much in either the damage or debuff departments.
  • Element Rift Beasts – (Rating: 7/10) Decent-ish in Fire Beasts due to his AoE. However, double AoE nukers like Alicia, Beth, Water Homunculus and more will do a better job. He’s just there to fill in a role until you get something better.

(Rating 7/10) While an AoE cooldown reset sure sounds useful on paper, it doesn’t transition well in-game. The main reason why you’ll use him is to have a clean reset on the Fria stages, or any other ones where a revival will be an issue.

(Rating: 10/10) Psamathe is by far the most game-changing monster you can get for Arena progression. His 33% Speed Leader Skill is the best skill you can have for Arena since it makes it extremely likely for your attack bar booster to get the first move off. A Despair / Nemesis set allows him to cut in between double nuker cleave teams and wreck havoc to those without immunity. Beyond his good damage, his Despair stuns is a huge factor for Offense players, especially since he’s there is always a chance for it to land (barring a Zaiross reset). He also does a fantastic job in Guild Wars Offense as a double-live nuker to counter cleave teams, as seen by videos posted by YDCB. Lastly, he does just as good of a job in World Arena, being a huge nuisance the longer the battle lasts. Players who leave him till the end here might get back a one-shot wipe once his Rageful Return kicks in.

How to Counter:

One of the reasons why he’s so potent in PvP are due to the huge difficulties in countering a Psamathe comp. There are a feww options against a Psamathe comp, outspeed it or just hope that your Shield + Will comp will survive the initial attack. If you have confidence in your attack bar booster outspeeding the enemy’s 33% boosted speed demon, you might be able to get a win off, but you’re just as likely to lose if some Despair procs goes in his favor. Prioritize killing whatever threat the enemy has first, and take him down before your HP is low enough for him to finish off your team.

Other advice:
  • Nemesis allows for him to get a 2nd attack off after coming back from Rageful Return. However, Will runes works as a counter to Zaiross comps too. Both sets work fine depending on what you’d like to counter.
  • Don’t give Psamathe too much HP, you WANT him to die in the 1st cleave attack so that he can cut the enemy.
  • Some accuracy is good so that his cooldown reset will work. He’s a great counter to monsters like Perna because of this skill.
Editor’s Note:

As a holder of the rare 33% Arena Speed Leader Skill, Psamathe have made storms since his introduction to the game. His resume includes single-handedly bringing Vanessa off the “Wanted Nat 5” pedestal as well as being prevalent in practically every single team in C3 Arena Defenses and up. Some players even consider it downright impossible to progress into Guardian without having him yourself. Speed is king in PvP, and his amazing Leader Skill and passive makes him one of the best monsters in the game here. He’s one of the most game-changing monsters you’ll ever get and will easily push you up the Arena rankings if you’re lucky enough to get him.
