Site Review

Dungeons: Malaka’s a pretty good choice for GB10 and DB10, especially if you have a bomb detonator like Seara. For those who do not, Malaka works well as standard AoE damager for the trash waves. While he does a decent job in GB10, his element neutrality makes most wind nukers pretty much superior to him. As for DB10, he is of little use at the boss stage if you’re going for a face DB10 run, as his bombs will be cleansed by the towers before there is an opportunity for it to detonate. Unless you are out of other options or are using him in conjunction with a Seara or Carrack, there isn’t really much of a use for him in dungeons.

  • Malaka also works fine as a Faimon Hell farmer. Try to get a good amount of speed and HP on him if you’re planning on using him this way, he can help give you sub minute runs.

Raids: While he does offer some useful debuffs, the long cooldowns and self-cleanse on the boss once your team reaches 15 turns makes Malaka a pretty unreliable monster. There isn’t really any bombers that should be used in raids besides Seara.   

ToA: Malaka works well in both ToAN and ToAH, as his bombs will always do a decent chunk of damage to the monsters. Furthermore, the bombs works well on the bosses and serves as a stun to the other monsters. If you’re using Malaka exclusively for ToA, you should run him either as a Violent or Despair build.

PvP: As the bomber with the second highest base attack, Malaka’s bombs hits really hard. Most people will pair Malaka with an attack buffer like Megan or Chasun to maximize the damage he can output. You can also choose to run a Galleon in the midst to make use of the damage on his 3rd Skill too, as the 420% multiplier will ensure he knocks out a decent chunk of the enemy’s health. As you progress in the game, however, you’ll have to begin bringing in strippers, as Malaka will be of little use against enemies with Will runes. Regardless, Malaka does his job well if he successfully lands his bombs, and can be used in both Arena and Guild Wars offenses.

How to Counter

Like most bombers, Malaka is very easily countered by Will runes and cleansers. Farmable monsters such as Veromos and Konamiya make quick work in eliminating the bombs that he has. However, Malaka still does enough damage on his other skills to pose a threat, so you should try to eliminate him as quickly as you can.

Other advice:

  • Accuracy is extremely vital for his bombs to land. While his leader skill does help, there will be situations where speed and attack leaders will be more important. Unlike the jokers, Malaka does not have an in-build accuracy buff on his 2nd Skill, so you really have to aim as much accuracy as you can get on him. Ideally, you should have 85% accuracy to minimize the chances of resistance.
  • Malaka can also be built as a typical water nuker, with high crit rate and crit damage to maximize the damage on his 3rd Skill.

Editor’s Note

One of the best things about building a bomber is the rune requirements needed for them to shine. Unlike typical nukers, bombs scale entirely off attack, so there isn’t a need to build them with crit rate and crit damage unless you’re planning on making use of the other skills. The bombs also serves as an ignore-defense and stun debuff when it detonates, so bombers like Malaka definitely shines more if you bring them against defense-heavy teams.
