Dungeons: Xiao Lin can be viable in NB10 for faster speed clears. However, she should only be used once your team is stable enough, as her lack of multi-hits apart from the 3rd Skill makes it difficult for newer players to break through the shield. On the other hand, end-game players will likely be using Fuco or Rigel instead due to their insane 2nd Skill multipliers, useful protective passives and multi-hits. You should only be using Xiao Lin as your nuker in NB10 only if you’re somehow unfortunate enough to not summon the water or wind liches.

Raids: Xiao Lin’s by far the best nuker for raids (discounting the crazy 12-second Katarina comps). The randomness on her 3rd Skill is nullified since all the attacks will go on the boss. With a proper raids team easily having more than 5 debuffs, you’re essentially dealing a great burst of damage on a 1400% multiplier skill! Even if her base attack is average, the strong multipliers, short cooldowns and useful debuffs more than makes up for it. In fact, Xiao Lin was quickly nerfed after the buff to her 3rd Skill solely because of how insane of a damage it dealt.

As she has a great base defense and below average HP, you can definitely consider building her with DEF% runes instead of HP% runes. The ones listed in the rune build section is simply a reference, but she really needs a good balance of speed, HP, defense, attack, crit rate, crit damage and resistance. As such, she can be extremely challenging to rune for newer to mid-game players, especially since her best rune-set, Vampire, can only be found in NB10, a place most new players won’t be able to clear and mid-game players having long clear times with it.

ToA: There isn’t much to say really, Xiao Lin’s 3rd Skill, while great against single-targets, doesn’t really excel that well in ToA. While the increase damage per harmful effect may be tempting to run her with a DoT team in ToAH, she simply doesn’t give a consistent enough damage in ToA to warrant a use here. You should just go ahead with whatever team you currently have and avoid using her in this aspect of the game.

PvP: Again, the randomness of the 3rd Skill makes it difficult for her to be effective. Among all of the Kung Fu Girls, the only one that can excel in PvP is Fei, with the randomness of the 3rd Skill increasing her effectiveness since enemies cannot bring a proper bait against her. The heavy counter-attacks on her skills essentially means she’s better for PvE settings with longer drawn-out fights. With a poor base attack and subpar base HP, it is very difficult for Xiao Lin to perform well in PvP.

How to Counter

You’re very unlikely to encounter a Xiao Lin in defense since pretty much only late-game players build her, and they’re unlikely to need her in PvP. However, with a poor base HP, most players are going to run her with attack and defense instead. Most ignore-defense monsters like Lushen will make quick work of her. Alternatively, you can bring attack breakers to reduce her damage or immunity to prevent her from doing anything if she’s paired with a Galleon.

Other advice:

  • Almost every stat is required for Xiao Lin to perform. But first off, you should be prioritizing her survivability in raids. With such a strong 3rd Skill, she can still deal respectable damage even if her attack isn’t as high as your PvP nukers. You can even choose to run crit rate on her Slot 4 to make it easier to rune her. Once you’re sure she can survive well-enough in your raids team, start prioritizing the more offensive stats like attack, crit rate, crit damage and speed.

Editor’s Note

The moment her 3rd Skill was buffed and released in-game (if you’re wondering what the buff was, it’s basically the harmful effect scaling), many players immediately went on to test her in raids, achieving great results. While Com2Us quickly nerfed her damage, she can still easily do 20k per hit on her 3rd Skill if she’s well-runed. If you have the rune quality to do so, she is definitely a great monster to build! As a plus, her skill ups are definitely much more obtainable than other monsters, since you can fuse her Wind sister Ling Ling in the Fusion Hexagram.

Excellent raids monster for sure! But only worth building if you have the rune quality to allow her to survive while still dealing good damage
