Site Review

  • GB10 – (Rating: 7/10) A decent damage dealer for any GB10 team. The combination of an AoE attack bar reduction and strip on his 3rd Skill (for the Boss’ attack buff) is great for early to mid game players transitioning to a faster team. That said, there are better damage dealers out there that outputs more AoE damage or single-target nukes, so he isn’t an ideal monster for end-game speed teams.
  • DB10 – (Rating: 8.5/10) A strong water nuker for DB10. Shi Hou’s 3rd Skill is a great back-up in the event the Boss gets immunity on him. He hits hard on his 3rd Skill against the bosses, while his 2nd Skill is great in limiting the movement of the crystals. However, it can be argued that Sigmarus will do a far better job in the damage department. It’s up to you on who to build, but players building speed teams are likely to favor the Water Monkey King over the giant flying frozen chicken.
  • NB10 – Not recommended. While he does offer a multi-hit skill, Shi Hou doesn’t offer it on a consistent pace. Further more, he lacks any debuffs that can be used against the boss, making other nukers like the Liches or Shihwa far better.

(Rating 8.5/10) A fast and reliable fodder farmer in Faimon Hell. A decently runed Shi Hou should have no issues one-shotting the trash waves with his 2nd Skill, while his Alter Ego Attack will greatly boost his survivability.

  • R5 – Not recommended. With only decent damage, lack of bulk and debuffs, there’s just no reason why you want to bring him over here.
  • Element Rift Beasts – (Rating: 7/10). A decent nuker for the Fire Beast thanks to his AoE attack. His 3rd Skill will also deal a good amount of damage during the Boss’ Groggy stage.

(Rating 7/10) If you’re looking for a decent crowd controller and damage dealer, Shi Hou’s your man (monkey?). A Despair Shi Hou can help a lot in controlling the waves, especially for newer players, while his 1st Skill stuns and 3rd Skill strip can come in clutch in certain situations. All in all though, there are better CC monsters out there, so only use him if you’re still early on in the game.


(Rating: 7.5/10) Most players uses Shi Hou as a standard Water nuker here. His main utility comes from his 3rd Skill, which grants a unique buff akin to Chloe’s Fanatic, albeit self. His 3rd skill also removes buff with 100% activation rate when a critical hit lands. This allows him to deal damage before protecting himself from the barrage of attacks that comes after. The multi-hits are also a great counter to the sea of Laikas you encounter in defense. He’s also an excellent counter to Laika thanks to the quadruple hits on Alter Ego Attack. Lower tier Laikas will easily die without defense break, but you’ll likely need it against tankier ones out there. Shi Hou’s 1st Skill also has good utility in the form of stuns, while his 2nd Skill offers a nice little attack bar reduction to the enemy team.

However, while he does offer some unique skills that’s hard to find on other monsters, there still aren’t a lot of people that uses him in PvP. This is largely due to the prevalence of better Nat 5* monsters out there. Monsters like Theomars, Chow & Camilla all either offer superior damage and / or survivability, while bruisers like Chandra & Verad dominate the AoE battlefield. He’s a good nuker to have in an offense team, but it’s hard to rune him up when there’s better monsters out there.

How to Counter:

You’re unlikely to find Shi Hou in defenses due to his squishy stats. However, if you do come across one, just make sure you have some form of immunity against him. His 3rd Skill only hits hard when paired with a defense break, but he doesn’t do well otherwise. If he gets his invincibility off, just focus down his allies instead, and kill him when the opportunity arises. His squishy stats makes it easy to take him out with just an attack buff or defense break.

Other advice:
  • Since his strip relies on Critical Hits to proc, aim for 85% if you’re using him in DB10.
  • Violent and Despair both works on him. Use Violent if you’re looking to increase the up time of his 3rd Skill, or Despair if you want better crowd control on his 2nd.
Editor’s Note:

Shi Hou’s one of those Nat 5* that people doesn’t seem to want. You won’t get the same kind of excitement from getting him compared to the rest of his family, even though he’s still a 5* monster. He’s nothing outstanding, but he isn’t bad either, especially after the buffs that he has gotten on his 2nd and 3rd Skills. You can use him in either GB10 or DB10 for more reliable runs, but he’ll likely be swapped out with a monster with better utility or damage later on. PvP-wise, he has uses in PvP Offense, but players will be hesitant in using him in Defense. Build him if you need to, but the fact that he requires so many Devilmons to fully utilize (which even then doesn’t have any WOW factor) just makes him a monster that few people will have in their teams.
