Site Review
Dungeons: Sigmarus is an especially good monster for newer players in DB10. His element advantage allows him to deal great damage against all the stages, while his 3rd Skill will deal a high and consistent amount of damage against the towers and the final boss. Most players will use Sigmarus when they’re starting out, since you’re unlikely to have a better AoE nuker in your monster box at this time. Even then, his HP-scaling damage and AoE attack break on 3rd still makes him unique and newbie-friendly enough to be used here. As you farm more runes, you can slowly transition his rune-set to Violent in order to increase the damage output as well as reducing the cooldown of his 3rd Skill.
Alternatively, Sigmarus can also be a good nuker for your GB10 team. Beyond the AoE attack break, damage and CC he brings, Sigmarus also has an amazing dungeon leader skill. With a 44% HP increase to your party, the survivability of your team in GB10 drastically increases. Sigmarus is very likely one of the first monsters you’ll put in to increase your GB10 clear times, so do make use of him well.
With the buff added to his 2nd and 3rd Skill on 30th January 2018, Sigmarus has evolved to a more powerful ally for both early-game and speed GB10 / DB10 comps. His 3rd Skill AoE freeze will make runs safer, while his 2nd Skill’s HP proportion will greatly increase your damage output against the boss.
Raids: Sigmarus is simply way too squishy to be used here. His poor base HP and defense as well as terrible base speed greatly reduces his survivability here. The only debuff he provides, an AoE attack break, has a long four-turn cooldown when maxed, making it unreliable at best. While his 3rd Skill does a good amount of damage on the boss, the rest of his kit and stats are too big of a drawback to make him effective here.
ToA: An all-around amazing monster for ToA, especially for newer players. Sigmarus offers good utility in the forms of stuns, freezes and an AoE attack break here. Against the bosses, his 2nd & 3rd Skill will likely be your main source of damage if you’re climbing ToA for the first time. The added utility of his AoE freeze will also make your runs a ton safer.
PvP: Surprisingly, Sigmarus damage can be pretty lackluster in PvP. Beyond the HP-scaling damage, his 3rd Skill has a poor multiplier of 300%, which is lower than most other Nat 5*’s 2nd Skill attacks! Furthermore, his poor supportive stats means that he pretty much can’t take any hits from any decently-runed nuker, making him ineffective in PvP defenses too. While Sigmarus excels in PvE content, his effectiveness just isn’t transferred over for PvP use. As soon as you get a better water nuker, such as the farmable Theomars, Sigmarus will be benched.
How to Counter
As mentioned in the PvP section, Sigmarus poor bulk makes him a very small threat, regardless of his damage. His poor base speed also makes it easy for you to outspeed him. One good hit from your best nuker should pretty much finish the job. As long as there’s no major threat like a Galleon on the other time, you shouldn’t be having any issues against Sigmarus at all.
Other advice:
- The HP-scaling on his 3rd Skill means he scales off Crit Damage way better than Attack, so despite his amazing base attack, Rage runes are still much more effective on him
Editor’s Note
Every Nat 5* fusion monster has a great use for a certain area in the game, and Sigmarus is no different. For newer players, he’s likely the best source of damage you’ll have for awhile, until you get something fancier in the future. Even then, you’ll probably be using him for your starting speed GB10 and DB10 teams. While he is pretty resource intensive to fuse, in the end he’s still a very worthwhile monster to have.
