Site Review

Dungeons: Kaz can be a pretty good monster in DB10 teams if you don’t have better options like Theomars. He hits very hard against the monsters here, and his element advantage allows to survive some hits and DoTs against the boss. His attack bar reduction can also come in useful in the Zaiross mini-stage, since it can greatly reduce the chances of him moving. However, he isn’t a good option if you’re running a tower team, since the attack bar reduction means there’s a very high chance one of your monsters will kill off tower instead of letting the DoTs do its job. If a crucial monster destroys the tower and you don’t have a reviver, there’s a very high risk of you failing the run.

Raids: Kaz has a bit more utility than the other Samurais thanks to his 100% attack bar reduction on the raids monsters. However, monsters like Hwa and Barque will be able to consistently outperform Kaz, since his Charging Slash has a four-turn cooldown when maxed. With the lack of any other debuffs and low supportive stats, you shouldn’t be running him here.

ToA: With attack bar manipulation being pretty common in other monsters, there’s little reason to use Kaz here if you already have monsters like Spectra built. If you need a pure water nuker, Theomars can easily do a better job than Kaz too.

PvP: In both Arena and Guild Wars, Kaz can hit an amazing amount of damage thanks to the insane multiplier on the 3rd Skill. To put things into perspective, a swift-built Kaz, which will have around 170 speed alone, will have over 900% multiplier on his 3rd Skill. Newer players can take full advantage of this to kill off pretty much any water or fire monster in PvP if you have attack buff and defense break. The speed scaling also means he can be runed in a Galleon-Kaz-Bernard team in Guild Wars to snipe the enemy’s fire nuker, even if they’re on Will runes. However, beyond the big damage, Kaz doesn’t have that much utility. The attack bar reduction isn’t as useful as you imagine, since the strong multipliers mean you should be expecting to kill the enemy on the hit.

How to Counter

You can treat Kaz as any other water-nuker that you find in PvP defenses. Since Kaz will normally be built fast, a tanky fire monster can be used to survive a hit, while you get one of your wind or water nukers to snipe him off. Since he doesn’t have a good base HP or defense, you shouldn’t encounter any problems killing him.

Other advice:

  • A swift set is the most optimal rune set for Kaz in order to capitalize on the 3rd Skill damage. In most cases, you want him to be able to reliably kill an enemy, so nuker sets like Swift, Rage and Fatal takes much bigger priority over something like Violent
  • For newer players, it is perfectly fine to go with a Slot 4 Crit Rate rune on him if you are unable to get crit rate from the rest of your substats. Kaz will still hit hard.

Editor’s Note

One of the main issues Kaz has is that Theomars easily outclasses him. With more consistent damage, a very potent yet protective passive and more consistent armor breaks, Theomars is arguably the main reason why Kaz isn’t used anywhere past mid-game teams. Kaz doesn’t have anything to make him standout among the sea of water nukers. While he’s a fun monster to play with endgame, there’s no reason to seriously consider using him at all. Like Kaito, you should definitely avoid skilling him up from the Samurai HoH. Save up the skill ups for one of the L&D Samurais instead.
