Site Review

  • GB10 – (Rating: 8.5/10) Ethna’s 950% multiplier on her 3rd skill is nothing to scoff at, while the added utility like her strips, AoE defense break and DoTs are all great here. A Despair Ethna can also do a good job CC-ing the trash waves for newer players. While she ain’t no Lushen, Ethna is still a great monster to have for both early-game and end-game speed GB10 teams.
  • DB10 – Not recommended. With a very clear elemental advantage, Ethna isn’t going to hit any decent damage against the bosses. You can use her to kill the trash waves, but pretty much any other damage dealer can do that too.
  • NB10 – (Rating: 8/10) A viable option for a NB10 team since her multi-hits is just enough for her to stand out from other standard damage dealers. She’s more often found in speed teams as a set-up for an AoE defense break (in place of Galleon). Make her fast, which shouldn’t be hard, and she’ll greatly reduce your time in fighting the trash waves.

(Rating 8.5/10) AoE defense break is amazing in speeding up your clear times, and Ethna will do just that in Aiden Forest. With a 2-turn cooldown when maxed, she can quickly take down the enemies and finish them off with her 1st or 3rd Skill.

  • R5 – Not recommended. The only debuff she’ll offer is a defense break, and that’s already prevalent in plenty of teams. I don’t see why you’ll want to use her over harder hitting, debuff-bringing nukers.
  • Element Rift Beasts – (Rating: 8/10) A standard damage dealer. Ethna hits pretty hard on the boss during the groggy stage, and her defense break can work as a backup in case your primary one derps.

(Rating 8.5/10) A Despair Ethna can be surprisingly effective here thanks to her 2-turn AoE defense break. Most players will use her in speed teams since she offers just the right mix of damage and utility.

(Rating: 9/10) Among the main elemental Hell Ladies, Ethna’s arguably the best among the bunch. She’s an extremely potent counter to the plethora of Theomars found in defenses, since a single defense break on him will lead to a decisive death for the water terror. His endure doesn’t mean squat if you can strip and deal damage after, and with a 5 hit combo, that’s very likely to happen. Apart from that obvious use though, Ethna still does an amazing job against any non-fire heavy comps, where her powerful multipliers and stuns can be very effective against nukers and healers alike. She excels in Guild Wars / Siege Battle Offense as well as World Arena, where a lucky or unlucky stun (depending on whose PoV you’re looking at) can determine the end result of the fight.

Most players opt to build Ethna on a Despair build to not only increase the stun chances on Capture, but to take advantage of that sweet 2-turn AoE on her 2nd Skill too. Whether you build her as a tank, a damage dealer or just a hybrid, she’s an effective monster that can bring both damage and crowd control against the enemy team.

How to Counter:

Ethna has a good number of counters, but the all-mighty Theomars is not one of them. Avoid bringing non-tanky water monsters against her, since she’ll wipe them off the face of the earth with a quick Capture. It’s recommended to bring immunity against her since the vast majority of them are built Despair. The last thing you want is a defense-broken, stunned up monster on your side. Regardless of how tanky they’re built, Ethna doesn’t have the base stats like an Eladriel or Ariel, so most powerful nukes or a defense break on her should take her down without issue.

Other advice:
  • Accuracy is good to have on her, but you don’t need that much since she has a 5-hit 100% chance to strip. Around 40% should be enough, but more wouldn’t hurt.
  • Crit Rate is great on her not only to boost her damage, but to take advantage of the attack bar increase on her 2nd Skill too
  • Even if you build her on a tanky set, some Crit Rate is nice so that she can still deal some form of damage
Editor’s Note:

The definitive Theomars killer. Pair Ethna up with any defense breaker and you shouldn’t have any issues killing even the tankiest of Theomars. A 5-hit, 950% multiplier with a 100% of stripping AND stunning is insane. To make it even crazier, Ethna’s 3rd Skill only has a 3-turn cooldown when maxed! While some might argue that a Violent set would be the better option on her, Despair is still the preferred choice. The increased stun rate and crowd control capabilities are just too good to pass up on, and it gives Ethna a niche few monsters can fulfill. She’s an all-round great monster to have in your PvP & PvE teams and is definitely worth your time in investing some Devilmons and quality runes on her.
