Rune Recommendations

Early Build A mix of Guard and Blade runes DEF% / CRIT R% or CRIT D% / DEF%
End Game PvP Rage + Guard or Triple Guard DEF% / CRIT D% / DEF%
Raids Alternative Violent + Guard or Blade DEF% / CRIT D% / DEF%

Additional Notes

  • Skill 1: Pulverize is able to Weaken Attack Speed even if the skill lands as a glancing hit. This is an exception as other skills that deal damage will not place harmful effects on glancing hit.

Site Review

Dungeons: Copper can work fine in GB10 runs to deliver a powerful nuke against the boss. With a reliable defense buffer and defense breaker, he can easily do over 40k damage, even higher depending on your rune quality. Common monsters paired with Copper here includes Delphoi, Imesety or Shannon.

Raids: Copper can actually be seen in some teams in R4 and R5 as a frontline tank that deals great damage to the boss. However, this will require you to pair with a reliable defense buffer such as Imesety, Olivia as well as consistent armor breakers such as Xiong Fei. While he can be useful here, he can be difficult to be properly set up. On the plus side, he does offer both an attack speed slow and defense break.

ToA: Unfortunately, Copper does not really see much use here due to his long cooldown and slow speed, making his 3rd Skill uptime pretty rare. While he can still be used in certain stages, you generally won’t need his kit over here.

PvP: While Copper shines in all forms of PvP, Guild Wars are his bread and butter. One of the most popular teams here is an Imesety-Copper-Bulldozer team, which can be effectively used from early to end game guild wars. One of Copper’s main advantages is his extremely consistent damage. When you bring such a team, you know what damage you’re going to output, without any worry for Will runes whatsoever. Of course, very high defenses are important in order to get his ignore defense to activate against potential Copper counters such as Anavel and Eladriel.

How to Counter:

As with all defensive scaling monsters, Copper’s main weaknesses is getting ignored defensed himself, or at the very least armor broken. Due to his condition on the 3rd Skill, a defense break or defense buff can easily nullify his usage. Unlike monsters such as Feng Yan and Eladriel, there is really no ambiguity with Copper. Regardless of his rune set, he will always be on a defensive built.

One of the easiest way is to simply bait his AI by bringing two fire monsters and a monster you know can survive a hit from him. If you have a monster such as Katarina, Lushen or Bulldozer, they can easily kill off Copper too.

Other advice:

  • While his attacks are attack scaling, you should prioritize defense stats over anything. You need as much defense as possible for him to reliably ignore the enemy’s defense.
  • You don’t really need a lot of speed for Copper if you’re pairing him with Imesety. Due to Imesety’s attack bar increase, you can just focus on getting as much defense and crit dmg as possible. 70% crit rate is also enough.
  • Be very wary bringing Copper against monsters that can defense break him. At the very least, you should try to kill off the potential armor breakers earlier on to prevent your team from failing, as Copper will be unlikely to be able to shake it off.

Editor’s Note

As mentioned, Copper is one of the most consistent and reliable damagers you can have in your arsenal. He does not care if an enemy has Will runes, and since the introduction of Imesety, speed isn’t really a huge factor for him as well. Ideally, your copper should have upwards of +1400 defense, which can ignore the defense of all but the tankiest of Eladriels.
