Site Review

Dungeons: A powerful monster in GB10, Shimitae is an excellent Wind monster here provided you don’t have access to a Double-Lushen team. Even then, he does more damage against the final Boss when paired with monsters like Galleon. While his speed leader doesn’t work in GB10, he offers an insanely great AoE multiplier on his 2nd skill and a powerful nuke on his 3rd skill. Also, his greater base HP makes him more resilient compared to other Wind nukers. For newer players, he’s a reliable nuker for your starting GB10 teams.

Raids: Shimitae’s only relevant debuff is a glancing, and that only comes every 2-turns. With other monsters like Lisa, Emma and Chasun already providing the debuff, it makes Shimitae pretty ineffective. There isn’t any reason to use Shimitae here since he gets outshine by debuff-scaling attack monsters or those that offer a ton more debuffs.

ToA: You can use Shimitae as a good crowd-controller when runed on Despair. His AoE 2nd Skill is great for this purpose, while the damage on 3rd Skill means he can dish out a good amount of damage against the bosses. However, due to the long cooldown on them, it does mean that there are better crowd controllers and nukers out there. Use Shimitae if you’re still early in the game, but swap him out for better monsters once you get a hold on them.

PvP: Shimitae shines as a powerful speed leader in Arena, beating out monsters like Baretta, Gemini and Conrad by 5%. The only other main element 4 star monster with the leader skill is Izaria, the Water Succubus, which Shimitae beats out pretty handily due to his superior damage and crowd control capabilities. The only other similar or better speed leaders for Arena are hard to get (4 star Light & Darkness Monsters or 5 star in general) or have too specific conditions (The Ninja Family).

As such, most players will be using Shimitae for a long time as an Arena leader until they get something better. In the mean time, relatively speaking, he’s definitely the most accessible and best monster you can get for this role. If you’re using him solely for here, a Despair build is best for disrupting the enemy, but a pure damage or Swift build ain’t so bad either.

How to Counter

Most players will pair Shimitae with an attack bar booster or speed monster like Bernard, Orion or Chloe. Also, most Shimitaes like this will be build fast, so it can be difficult to outspeed a proper team. If you can’t outspeed the enemy, your best bet is to either bring a water tank or an all-fire combo to tank out Shimitae. Will runes will also be important in the event the enemy’s on Despair, which can easily mess up your team. Once you get a move off, prioritize the enemy’s defense breaker like Galleon if there’s one. If not, they next heaviest damager should be your priority.

Other advice:

  • Speed is crucial for Shimitae in later-game arena. Get as much speed as you can, it takes precedence over his damage or HP
  • Despair is the best set for him in PvP. Save up a decent set of speedy nuker Despair on him and he’ll be golden

Editor’s Note

Overall, Shimitae’s a great monster due to the leader skill he can bring. If you’re in need of a monster that has both a good speed leader skill while delivering damage (discounting 5 star monsters), Shimitae’s your best bet. He doesn’t need skill ups at all to shine either, since his damage is already good enough unskilled. He’s a worthwhile monster to build, but save your Sylph skillups and Devilmons for Baretta instead.
