Dungeons: Woochi can be pretty viable for starting GB10 teams, where the attack bar manipulation and stuns if he’s on Despair makes the trash waves EXTREMELY safe. His 1st Skill’s attack break and glancing (which will happen pretty often since he has an element advantage) also reduces the amount of damage the boss will dish out. If you’re in desperate need to break into GB10, Woochi may very well be that monster. However, while he definitely improves the reliability your runs, he contributes little when it comes to speeding it up. Woochi, in essence, is a supportive monster, and his low multipliers reflects that. While newer players can certainly benefit from him, those looking to improve your clear times should have no reason to build him here.

Raids: As a CC-heavy monster, there is no place for Woochi in your raids team. Attack bar manipulation can often be found in better monsters like Hwa and even Barque. You should not be building a Woochi specifically for raids, so Despair is pretty much irrelevant here too, since the boss can’t be stunned. His attack breaks and glancing, while useful, is normally already provided by Colleen, Chasun, Mihyang and Lisa.

ToA: Most of the Taoist family is known for one thing, their powerful kits in ToAN and ToAH. Woochi offers very strong CC capabilities, with two AoEs that reliably reduces the enemy attack bar while always having a chance to stun (Despair). While he may not offer as reliable stuns as his Dark and Water brothers, the attack bar manipulation more than makes up for it. This also makes him better in boss stages where stuns have no effect against them and he can greatly reduce the movement of all the monsters in the final stage. Woochi is an excellent monster if you’re starting to climb up ToAH or even for newer players simply looking for a slow but reliable team for the upper-ends of ToAN.

PvP: Unfortunately, Woochi doesn’t shine as much in PvP as well. In places where reliability is important, Woochi’s attack bar manipulation and Despair stuns aren’t reliable enough to warrant a use for him here. New players, however, can definitely make use of him in low-arena rankings, where the lack of Will runes can make Woochi a hindrance to the enemy in defense.

    How to Counter

Will runes are by far the best way to stop Woochi from doing pretty much anything. If you’re at the point where you don’t have any means to farm Will runes yet, immunity monsters like Delphoi and Draco are more than enough. Again, if you do not have any such monsters, the only other way you can counter a Woochi on defense is to simply outspeed the enemy and prioritize whatever threat the enemy has.

    Other advice:

    • Thanks to his awakening bonus, you do not need to build Woochi with that much accuracy. If you’re using him solely for ToA, 45% accuracy (total) is more than enough
    • When you’re looking to speed-tune your team, it’s ideal for Woochi to be one of the last monsters (before Mav) to move in order to take full advantage of his 3rd Skill’s complete attack bar reduction
    • As his base defense is definitely superior to his base HP, you can swap out one of the main slots with a DEF% substat instead, provided there’s a decent chunk of HP% in the substats

    Editor’s Note

Woochi’s definitely a worthy monster to 6* if you’re yet to complete some aspects of the game. Likewise, however, if you are already capable enough to clear GB10, ToAN and most of ToAH, there is little to no reason to build Woochi. With Taoist skill ups being an extremely rare commodity (since the only “obtainable” skill up is the Fire Taoist), you should definitely save up as many as you can, even if you’re not going to build them any time in the near future. If you’re fortunate enough to get a Hwadam, the skill ups you’ve saved will be useful.

    Summary

Great ToA / ToAH CC monster. If you’re looking for a more consistent stunner though, consider Woonhak or Gildong.

    Pros

    – Double AoE attack bar manipulation
    – Accuracy on awakening makes him easy to rune
    – Great all-around bulk, with a base defense on par with Copper
    – Attack break on 1st Skill can come in handy

    Cons

    – Lack of a reliable stun compared to Gildong and Woonhak
    – No actual debuffs besides attack bar reduction
    – Difficult to obtain skill ups
